Altar Servers

Assist the priest during the celebration of Holy Mass and other liturgical events. This ministry is open to parishioners in grades four through twelve.

Candlelight Procession Committee

Organizes and coordinates the parish’s annual candlelight procession held every year on the first Sunday after May 13th.

Church Decorating Committee

Members decorate the church and chapel for special feast days, liturgical seasons and sacramental events.

Collection Counters - St. Matthew Counters

Appointed by the pastor, the St. Matthew's Counters help to count, verify, record and deposit the weekend and holy day collections.

Eucharistic Guardian Society

Our Blessed Sacrament Chapel offer individuals the opportunity to spend some quiet and prayerful time with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. The Chapel is located in the Parish Center at 50 Van Winkle Place and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (except during inclement weather).

Eucharistic Guardian Society Members, known as "Eucharistic Guardians", commit themselves to an hour of silent prayer each week in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. They make Perpetual Adoration possible by assuring that Jesus is never left alone.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Assist the clergy with the distribution of Holy Communion during the celebration of Holy Mass. They also bring the Holy Eucharist to the homebound and those in hospitals and nursing homes. Extraordinary Ministers are appointed to a three-year term by the Bishop of Metuchen at the recommendation of the Pastor.

Lectors

Assist at Holy Mass by proclaiming the Word of God and, in the absence of a deacon, reading the General Intercessions.

Sacristans (Sextons)

Set-up the sanctuary and prepare the sacred vessels for the celebration of Holy Mass. They coordinate the liturgical ministers at Mass and give them any special instructions from the celebrant and/or pastor.

Ushers

Serve the parish by warmly welcoming parishioners and visitors to our church. They help seat the congregation, collect the monetary offerings, facilitate the presentation of the gifts, and guide the flow of the people during the reception of Holy Communion and they assist with the distribution of the parish bulletin at the end of Mass.
